American audiences have fallen in love with Jojo Moyes. Ever since she debuted Stateside she has captivated readers and reviewers alike and hit the New York Times bestseller list with the word-of-mouth sensation Me Before You. Now, with One Plus One, she's written another contemporary opposites-attract love story.

Suppose your life sucks. A lot. Your husband has done a vanishing act, your teenage stepson is being bullied, and your math whiz daughter has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that you can't afford to pay for. That's Jess's life in a nutshell—until an unexpected knight in shining armor offers to rescue them.

Only Jess's knight turns out to be Geeky Ed, the obnoxious tech millionaire whose vacation home she happens to clean. But Ed has big problems of his own, and driving the dysfunctional family to the Math Olympiad feels like his first unselfish act in ages . . . maybe ever.

One Plus One is Jojo Moyes at her astounding best. You'll laugh, you'll weep, and when you flip the last page, you'll want to start all over again.

About the author: One Plus One by Jojo Moyes

Born in 1969, a reporter by background, the new generation of British love novel writers, as famous as JK Rowling.

Following the tear-jerking masterpiece "Me Before You" (Me Before You), which was popular all over the world, Jojo challenged the romantic road novel "One Plus One" and achieved great success.

As soon as the novel was published, it immediately occupied the best-selling list of various books in Europe and America, and the film adaptation rights were quickly bought by Warner's New Line Films. The sales enthusiasm is not inferior to "I Want You to Be Well".

There are many shadows of movies in this novel, such as "Little Miss Sunshine", "BJ's Diary" and "About a Boy". It broke a record and created a phenomenon-level topic. Since then, Jojo's works have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.

About dreams and love, about life and distance, Jojo's writing is unique, humorous, and heart-wrenching. She is good at constructing exquisitely structured human stories, digging out the multiple dimensions of human nature, and giving people the power to move forward amidst joys and sorrows.

She and her books not only shook Europe, became popular in Europe and the United States, but also spread widely in Latin America. It has been repeatedly promoted by the "Richard & Judy" club, which is the vane of European and American reading.

Book Summary: One Plus One by Jojo Moyes

After watching "One Plus One", it seems that following the protagonist has just completed a journey.

Jojo Moyes' narration is very immersive, whether it's in a fancy Audi or a seven-year-old wreck with a broken bumper, a man frustrated at work and a woman living a busy and poor life, with two eccentric children, and a huge stupid dog.

It sounds like the car is already crowded, but you don't feel like they've left you on the road.

If a woman left school at the age of seventeen to give birth to a child and adopted the child born to her husband and ex-wife, the husband left her after throwing her two children away on the grounds that he was depressed and needed to go to his mother for recuperation ( His big lie was later discovered).

No help from her natal family, no decent job, thin, busy, always running around for a living... We can imagine her image and situation. If she appeared in our lives, how would we treat her?

Is it a generous offer of help, or a friendly offer of sympathy? At this time, you will find that we tend to ignore their existence, and even use her embarrassing life as a negative example.

However, the author shows us the vivid life of a person who is often overlooked and the world in their eyes.

How should I put it, she is too ordinary, ordinary to bleak. Some people may say: She can stop having children at the age of 17 and create such a messy life for herself.

But I think it is necessary to emphasize here that the author does not mention this in this book but is alluded to a small British concept: abortion is generally not allowed in the UK.

Don't underestimate the word abortion. The message it can reflect is not just the simple use of medicine to prevent a life from coming.

The male protagonist lived up to expectations and was portrayed as the most down-to-earth local tyrant. His appearance setting is that because of busy work, his dissatisfied wife becomes an ex-wife.

He tries to make a success of the campus crush with low EQ, and dumps his girlfriend in a way with lower EQ, causing himself to face ruin. How ironic that a workaholic is banned from even his own office.

He doesn't have any airs that a local tyrant should have, domineering, paranoid, or heavy taste... Surprisingly, he is like an ordinary programmer, except that the programs he made him rich.

He didn't have any sharpness, and he never even let himself shine out the luster that money brought him.

On the contrary, it was his ordinariness, his kindness, his sense of responsibility, his frankness, and his respect for Jesse's family, Let's pray for him and cheer for him.

Indeed, money can bring us a lot of material and spiritual satisfaction, and even a lot of vision, taste, and status are based on money, but money may not bring nobility.

The story revolves around money, which perfectly interprets the vividness that "true feelings" and "hard work" bring to the soul, and money, it can only enrich our lives.

In this article, on the one hand, the author is talking about the desperation of the poor because of money, and on the other hand, he is talking about a rich man getting into trouble because of money.

Under the neutralization of these two identities as the main line, under the depiction of "British culture" brought to us by various scenes and details, we even ignore the importance of banknotes, and unfold the delicate details based on banknotes. Amazed by emotion.

Jesse and Ed's romantic love, Jesse's love for the child, Nicky's brother-sister affection for Tansy, the ruthlessness of the "town bully" child when bullying others, Jesse's self-righteous affection for Marty, Ai De's affection for the family, Jessie's friends' sympathy for her, the enthusiasm of the town residents and strange netizens... all kinds of emotions spread out a fine network, covering 320,000 characters in the entire text, the author uses these subtle emotions to touch the readers' hearts bit by bit, and uses her belief that shines brightly in the ordinary dust to create a different British romantic love story for us.

So when Jesse sees Marty cheating on her and breaks down, when Ed leaves because of the door card, we will pray that Norman will not leave when he is dying to protect the little master. When Xi saw Ed's canvas shoes, she shared her startled expectation.

We can be poor, but not without dignity. We can be embarrassed, but never take others' help for granted. We can be weird, we can walk alone without companions, but never give up believing in the truth in the world.

Don't refuse to do good because there is no reward, don't let love slip away because there is no future, don't keep complaining because life hits you, and don't give up anyone or anything.

You should even understand: no matter how ravaged life is, you have to be an optimistic and good person, and don't fantasize about asking life to be a good person in return.

Because you know that you have no choice but to be a good person—this is the greatest respect for your own life, and this is the least costly way to gild your soul and become noble.

It was this heart made of gold that gave Jessie the courage to seize happiness. She never even thought about whether her identity was right with him, because she never expected anything from him.

It was this heart that made Ed see her uniqueness, and made him willing to believe that behind the temptation of money, there really was pure love.

I believe that no one will close the book and say that they don't deserve a good life and love.

One Plus One Book Reviews

Recently, I discovered that reading this matter still needs to be done in one go. If you divide it into several days to read, you will have a feeling of detachment, and even the thrilling stories will be lightened.

No matter how beautiful the story is, if you can't listen to it devoutly, then it's just passing ears.

After reading this not-so-thin book in one breath, I feel surrounded by a kind of warm friendship, and that kind of warm care makes people feel that the sky is extraordinarily bright.

It coincides with the pouring rain, and it is perfect to hide quietly in a corner and read such a novel that makes the eyes sore.

Not to mention literature and art or petty bourgeoisie, but, sometimes, I am tired and want to give myself a little gentle touch, so that I can continue, struggling to survive in this world full of sorrows and stars.

Some people are born to be brave in life. He has never been rich and prosperous, and it can even be said that he has suffered a lot of bad luck, but he has always been able to maintain a pure and innocent heart.

Because they have experienced the pain that has not been obtained and that has already passed away, they are willing to use their not-so-strong shoulders to prop up a loving sky for their children.

Jesse, who became a mother at the age of 17, is bound to be unkind, and she is still an ignorant child, so she takes on the responsibility of being a mother. When we were children, we only knew that everything our mother did seemed to be taken for granted.

Only when I become a mother myself, struggling with various emotions like a roller coaster every day, will I understand the profound meaning of the word mother? In such a unique way, God makes the mother and child closely related by blood, and every breath is closely related.

It can be said that from the moment of becoming a mother, life unfolds in a whole new dimension. What you see, hear, and feel is no longer your own. Every choice, every action, faces a test and test. Someone entrusts all their money, this heavy trust, not everyone can bear it safely.

Some have the courage to undertake, and some escape. Jesse not only picked up his own burdens without hesitation but also assumed the responsibilities left behind by others. In a family without a father, two children, and a house dog, the four depend on each other.

In addition to having no money and being forced into life, Jesse can almost be said to be a good mother. The life of a single mother is usually chaotic and depressing, but she always shows her sunny and warm heart to her children.

The two weird children in the eyes of others are both darlings to her. Life is so painful, but she has never regretted her original choice. No matter how hard and tired she was, she never thought of escaping from this battlefield.

This kind of pure aura and heart made me extremely ashamed. Although she couldn't stay by her child's side like those mothers, she gave her child the best company with her undaunted and hard-working heart.

What moved me about this story was not that Cinderella met the rich and handsome prince, but that after experiencing all kinds of unimaginable troughs in life, our beautiful mother Jessie finally faced the challenges of life calmly.

In the world we live in, money is indeed not everything, but without money, it is absolutely impossible. Jesse has no money, really no money. God made a big joke with her.

The result of traveling long distances to participate in the Mathematical Olympiad competition destroyed her daughter's confidence, and even the handsome prince who was presented with the opportunity once again abandoned her and went resolutely.

The big dog, one of the family members, was also seriously injured. All that's left in life seems to be bills, bills, bills. In such a predicament, Jessie's mother still chooses to treat the dog for her daughter, son, and even the family. This woman is so warm that I want to cry.

I used to hear that good people bully the sky and do not bully others. Later, I often feel that this is the greatest paradox in the world. Human nature is evil, people who are tolerant often suffer more pain, and it is normal for good people not to live a long life and live for thousands of years.

However, the greatest charm of human beings is that there will always be a great good and great beauty. Jessie is a cleaner, but she never underestimates herself. She is not a flat, stiff person, but a living, flesh-and-blood person. She also has her own strengths and hobbies. She can do many repairs that men can't do well, and she can make beautiful clothes for her daughter.

Oh, I really adore such a woman with a strong boyfriend. If I could choose again, I would rather spend my life with such a woman than a man who gives people headaches just thinking about it.

I always firmly believe that women are the source of strength to support and maintain the world, especially mothers. Everything in the world is a cycle of cause and effect.

Those who have done evil karma will one day taste the bitterness of this evil result. Our mother Jesse stood up resolutely after being broken and heartbroken. After all, being a mother of two has the luxury of being heartbroken.

She decided to seek justice for her children and herself and punish her evil ex-husband. Advertise to find a suitable job for yourself, and do a good job in it.

The most amazing thing is that she confessed her mistakes in front of the two children, used practical actions to make up for the damage caused, and returned the money she took away bit by bit.

Women, when you stand up and calmly be yourself and exude your unique charm, all the men in this world will become decorations.

There are a thousand Hamlets in the eyes of a thousand people. This book can be regarded as a simple love story, romantic and complete. It can also be used as an inspirational tutorial, drinking a bowl of warm chicken soup.

Or, make you longing and conscious. Life is so gray and gloomy, and the sunshine and rain are short-lived. You can choose what path you take, what attitude you use to face it, and what kind of actions you use to interpret it.

Marriage is a city under siege, it is not difficult to walk in, but what is difficult is what to do when you are sitting in a city of sorrow. After all, life is a day-to-day move forward that cannot stop going backward.

Of course, these are all stories written by the writer, but there are shadows of reality that cannot be ignored. The little girl's part about what £187 can buy is very thought-provoking. The same people, life is so different.

Among them, Jessie's mother's interpretation of food safety is also very original. It looks poor, but it has a different taste. If, if, you can let go of your preconceptions and read this story with a completely open heart, then you will definitely understand the state of mind that keeps the clouds open to see the moon.

I think the reason why this book can attract so many people to read, share, and talk about it shows that even under layers of ice, there is still a sincere warmth in our hearts. move.

From the bottom of our hearts, what we long for, and what we want, are very simple things. The problem is that the simpler it is, the more it can be encountered but not sought after.

But, no matter what, be nicer to yourself, have more confidence in yourself and never give up your pursuit of good intentions.

Who knows, maybe, you will meet your true love just around the corner.

Even if you can't keep the clouds open to see the moon, at least, when the sun penetrates the dust and haze, don't miss the beautiful scenery and mood.

Excerpts from the original text: One Plus One by Jojo Moyes

I want to be with you. I know we're in a mess right now, but I still think it's better to be wrong with you than to feel like I'm always right without you. — Quoted on page 460

He changed into Converse sneakers, jeans, and a T-shirt; he sat staring at his phone, flipping through the screen, occasionally looking up as everyone cheered for the goal. When Jesse saw him, he was raising a glass of beer and downing it. He probably thought he could fit in here in jeans, but he had "outsider" written all over him. He is too rich. That kind of dainty slovenliness can only be done by rich people. Jessie turned quickly as he looked at the bar, and she felt her heart sink. — Quoted on page 74
